Following 20 years of continuous operation, SFD has succeeded to shift from a mere social safety net mandated to mitigate the side effects of the economic reform programs launched by the Egyptian government during the early 90s into a permanent socio-economic development organization entrusted with implementing job-creation and poverty-alleviation schemes. Building on its tangible achievements in the development arena, SFD has become one of the most important State’s organs assigned with the task of implementing components of the Presidential Platform particularly with respect to creating job opportunities for the youth and attaining comprehensive development at large.
SFD operates through many axes: developing small/micro enterprises, contributing to realizing human/community development and deep-rooting entrepreneurial culture. It implements human, community and infrastructural development activities nationwide targeting populations living below the poverty line. It finances productive, industrial, commercial, service rendering, technological, medical, engineering projects, in addition to animal wealth development and poultry restructuring enterprises. Besides its package of financial privileges mainly represented in offering easy-term loans, flexible grace periods and tax exemptions, SFD provides its beneficiaries with an assortment of non-financial services including specialized training, marketing facilities, technical support and assistance in obtaining temporary and final licenses and the national number for their enterprises.
Since its inception and up to June 30, 2008, SFD injected over L.E. 12 billion into the national economy creating around 2.3 million job opportunities. .
