Professionals: How to be more Productive at Work

Do you ever feel that you have so much to do, with so little time? Do you ever feel that everyday flies by and you still didn’t finish your tasks or achieve your targets? Most employees get times when they feel overloaded and stressed which further limits their abilities to finish their work. On the other side, only few employees know how they can expand their workdays and accomplish their duties at work. Jobzella is offering you the top 10 habits that can make you more productive at work and increase your success.

  1. Work out every day.

Try to specify some time to work out every day. It doesn’t matter what kind of exercise you are doing, what matters is that you stay fit and keep a healthy physical condition. Working out every day, especially in the morning, gives you energy and a fresh start for your day. More importantly, staying fit and healthy strengthens your ability to work and powers your mind to successfully finish your daily tasks.

  1. Create your own routine, and follow it.

Every successful professional has an organized life and follow a defined routine, because it regulates their days and keeps them productive. Furthermore, when you get used to follow a certain schedule, it helps your brain to understand your duties and what you need to do, and therefore, helps you stay on track and achieve them on time. On the other hand, no one understands yourself better than you, and as people differ in which some are morning people and others are not, you are the perfect person to determine when and how you can finish certain jobs or tasks. You know your strength and weakness points and you know how to manage to increase your productivity by strengthening your abilities and eliminating your weakness.

  1. Have to-do lists and not-to-do lists.

The key to reaching your targets and accomplishing your goals is to organize your tasks and prioritize them. Organization is very important as it keeps you focused and guides you through the best and most productive path to achieve success. To do so, you need to keep a daily to-do list, and that can be easily done if you keep track of your projects, tasks and jobs on weekly, monthly and, if necessarily, yearly basis. So when you have a clear schedule or plan for your duties, you can create and update a daily task sheet that informs you with the jobs you need to finish every day. On the other side, keeping a not-to-do list, is a fun and useful way that can help you minimize your weakness and increase your productivity. This list can include your bad habits that hold you back from achievements, slow your progress or waste your time. So, it will act like a reminder to keep you from practicing these habits and therefore, become a more productive and achieving person.

  1. Don’t say “Yes” all the time.

Everyone wants to be a better employee and wants others to like him. Sometimes, this might lead them to agree on handling many tasks or projects at the same time, to please their supervisors or managers. However, this results in them being overloaded with work, stressed about getting the work done on time, and less productive and distracted by the huge workload. It is good to be a helpful employee and a hard worker, but working in such a stress will definitely affect the quality of your work and decrease your productivity. Moreover, at some point, you will get exhausted and your energy will get completely consumed that might make you even hate going to work.

  1. Take breaks.

No matter how busy or overloaded you are, you must have breaks within your workday. Divide your time into blocks like, 90 minutes of work followed by 10 minutes break, or 5 minutes break after every hour, or you can even have only one break for 30 minutes or an hour in the middle of your workday. It doesn’t matter how you break your day, what matters is that you give your brain and body some time off to refresh, so they can focus again on the work. In your break time, you can walk outside for few minutes, work out for a little bit, make some personal phone calls, or eat a snack. No matter what you choose to do, make sure that you keep your mind far away from thinking about your work and your next task.

  1. Set deadlines for yourself.

As a part of your daily routine, or your to-do list, put some deadlines for yourself. For example, set your clock to talk to your manager about the project you are working on at 1:00 p.m., or decide that you need to finish certain three tasks before you leave at 5:00 p.m. The problem with not keeping track of time, or not setting deadlines is that your brain thinks that you still have long time to do your work. Therefore, it gets a little lazy and postpones working on the tasks until later. On the other hand, it makes you more professional to set short-term targets with specific deadlines to get your work done. It also makes your work more organized and saves you lots of time.

  1. Don’t multitask.

Focus is another essential key to be a productive employee. When you multitask, you are distracted by so much work at the same time. You lose time, energy and more importantly, you don’t usually finish any of the tasks on time. The best way to work is to focus on one task, finish it completely, and then move on. Handle one task at a time, and you will find yourself become more productive.

  1. Don’t be a perfectionist.

Seeking perfection is good, but being a perfectionist distracts the work flow. In other words, as an employee, you need to get your work done perfectly, but be aware that it doesn’t mean that everything is accomplished perfectly. A perfect work or project is the one that is completed with hard work and deep efforts to be achieved on time. When an employee is a perfectionist, he usually misses the big picture and focuses on small things that are not as important. So, he wastes time, and eventually doesn’t get the work done as he gets paranoid and doubts his ability to do things right. Don’t let perfection makes you paralyzed, but instead be persistent, don’t fear to make mistakes and learn from them to improve yourself and get work done better in every time.

  1. Create your own distraction-free zone.

Create your own friendly zone where you can escape when you need to focus and get creative and productive. It can be a cafe or a nearby library, the most important thing is that it frees you from all distractions and offers you an uninterrupted time with your mind and imagination. When you create this zone, it is like having a backup place where you can stay to accomplish your tasks. Some people prefer to stay at their office, and that is fine too. Nevertheless, they need to make sure that they feel comfortable and that they keep their office organized, and clean, so they can work productively.

  1. Drink water and snack right.

Most employees get caught up in their work that they forget to take care of themselves. Working for long hours requires you, as an employee, to keep yourself hydrated and well fed, so you can get enough energy and keep yourself healthy to work right and be more productive.

In today’s fast-paced life, most employees get overloaded with work and run out of time and energy which prevents them from keeping their productivity. Nevertheless, it is never too late to rediscover yourself, as an employee, learn about your points of strength and weakness, and start following new habits to improve your life. Start now, and enjoy your productivity and success.
