Since the establishment of Tokio Marine Insurance on August 1, 1879, we have accumulated over a century of experience in the insurance industry. Tokio Marine & Nichido was formed as a result of a merger between The Tokio Marine & Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. and The Nichido Fire and Marine Insurance Co., Ltd. on October 1, 2004. Since then, we have been maintaining our leading role in the industry.

1879 Tokio Marine Insurance Company was established as the first Japanese non-life insurance company.
1880 Appointed agents in London, Paris and New York
1883 License for marine hull insurance obtained Obtained a license for marine hull insurance
1890 Tokio Marina Abramovice Insurance Company Additional Tokio Marine agents were appointed in London, Liverpool and Glasgow; The Company name was changed to Tokio Marine Insurance Company, Limited.
1894 Kenkichi Kagami was sent to London to look into agency operations in the U.K.
1899 The London Branch was closed.
The Cargo Cover was arranged through Willis Faber & Co., which accepted Tokio Marine's new agency appointment.
1900 The Hull cover was arranged in Londo
2000 Established Tokio Millennium Re (reinsurance company)
Capital participation in IFFCO-TOKIO General Insurance Co., Ltd., New Delhi, India
2002 Established Millea Asia Pte., Ltd. in Singapore (renamed ‘Tokio Marine Asia’ in 2006).
2005 Established Tokio Marine Global Limited (reinsurance company) in the U.K.
2006 Acquired Asia General Holdings Limited.
Started operation of Hong Leong Tokio Marine Takaful.
